Where the island's great houses stand

In the hills above Palma, Son Vida gathers large private homes along quiet, gated roads, with views over the city and the bay. To the south-west, Port d'Andratx pairs contemporary architecture with a working harbour below: glass, pale stone and long terraces facing the sunset.

The Serra de Tramuntana is another world. In Deià, Valldemossa and around Sóller, mansions are often old stone houses restored with patience, set among terraced olive groves high above the sea. On Mallorca a mansion can mean two very different homes.
