Málaga draws most of the attention, with Marbella at its heart, and has its own guide, as do Cádiz and Almería. If you are weighing other regions, the Valencia region, Murcia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands are close alternatives.

Provinces with their own rhythm

In Málaga, the search usually starts in Marbella, on the Golden Mile, in Sierra Blanca or in Nueva Andalucía, with La Zagaleta in the hills of Benahavís above them. Estepona, Fuengirola and Nerja widen the choice, from beachfront ease to whitewashed village charm.

Cádiz looks to the Atlantic. Sotogrande is known for polo, sailing and generous green plots, while the Costa de la Luz around Chiclana de la Frontera has long beaches and a wilder, windswept light.

Almería is the quietest of them, with villages such as Arboleas in the Almanzora valley and the protected coastline of Cabo de Gata.

Coast or countryside

Andalusia rewards buyers who look beyond the shoreline. Hillside villas above the Costa del Sol trade a stroll to the beach for privacy and long views. Inland, olive groves and white villages frame restored country homes with room to breathe.
