Two coasts, two moods
Santa Cruz de La Palma, the capital on the east coast, is known for its balconied houses and harbour front. The west, around Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte, tends to be sunnier and is lined with banana plantations, with the Caldera de Taburiente National Park rising behind.
The recent eruption on the Cumbre Vieja ridge reshaped part of the western slopes. If you consider a home on that side, ask your advisers to check access, land records and insurance with particular care.

Is La Palma the same as Palma de Mallorca?
No. La Palma is one of the Canary Islands, out in the Atlantic, while Palma is the capital of Mallorca in the Mediterranean. If you had the Balearic city in mind, look under Mallorca and the Balearic Islands.
